Hsin-Hua Wang (汪 新樺)is an award-winning Los Angeles-based Taiwanese composer, pianist and writer whose breadth of work spans film and media, animation, concerts, among many other mediums.
FILM SCORING
Hsin-Hua has composed and orchestrated for short films and animation awarded worldwide- United States, Portugal, Czech Republic, Japan, India and Taiwan.
She was nominated Best Score at New Jersey Web Fest 2023 for her original score in The Strawberry Jam. In 2021, she was awarded the Judges' Citation: “Special Achievement in music for animation” by The American Prize after named a Finalist in the Composers for Opera/ Theater/ Film/ Dance, Professional divisions. In addition, Semi-finalists at the 2021 California Independent Film Festival Film Scoring Competition and “Sound of Silences: A Competition of Musical Composition for The Moving Image” by Edison Studio; the Cineteca di Bologna (Film Archive of Bologna); and the 2019 Romaeuropa Festival in Italy.
CONCERT MUSIC
Aside from film scoring, Hsin-Hua is recognized as an emerging composer to the modern classical music scene. A highlight of her work is a recording session by the internationally renowned Arditti Quartet (UK) at June in Buffalo festival (USA) in 2022.
In 2021, She was named a Finalist at Copland House emerging composers’ institute; had her work “res pi ra tion” for amplified soprano and large ensemble premiered by orkest de ereprijs (NL) at International Young Composers Meeting (The Netherlands).
In August 2024, Hsin-Hua wrote “Everything Everywhere All At Once” for brass quartet, world premiered by the brass section of Ensemble Musikfabrik (DE) at its Virtual Brass Academy: Closing Concert in Köln, Germany.
She received a MFA degree in Music Theory and Composition at California Institute of The Arts (CalArts).
BACKGROUND
DESIGN & CINEMATOGRAPHY
Hsin-Hua holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Design from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU). She served as the school’s co-curator of the thesis product design exhibition at the annual Young Designers’ Exhibition (YODEX) at Taipei World Trade Center in 2013. She led six teams of 52 people.
After NCKU, she studied film directing with Ho Ping and film editing with Liao Ching-Sung at National Taiwan University of Arts.
